New testing from Consumer Reports appears to back that claim up, with very little observed difference between the two devices. Prior to testing, the Samsung and TSMC phones were exhaustively checked against each other to ensure that every setting, brightness level, and feature settings were equal. The organization then ran both devices through a series of benchmarks, including continuous cellular radio connections, data-intensive browsing, video playing, and music playback.
In the cellular test, both phones scored within 2% of each other. In the data-intensive browsing session, the gap was less than 1%. Consumer Reports‘s verdict is straightforward: They see no evidence of the kinds of variation reported in other tests and no reason to prefer one brand over the other. Thermal measurements of both devices were similarly identical with no appreciable variation between the two devices.
